friday-favourites

It’s Friday! and it’s time to round up some of our favourite pieces from the week.  It has been a busy week at kiki interiors and we have been working on so many different projects for clients but here are some of our favourite finds from the week….

  Eiffel Side Chair

We are HUGE fans of these chairs – we used them most recently at Stittsville Walk but we have used them with a number of clients.  they come in a bunch of colours and different bases, too!

Zak Teak Dining Table

This was a recent purchase for our staging inventory and we love it! We just took it out of the box this week and wow, it did not disappoint! It’s a perfect table for a smaller space and the reclaimed teak has a raw and industrial look bringing so much character to the room.

Bull Printed Framed Art

Another new inventory piece … we love the simplicity and the unexpected element of this piece. It is such a clean looking framed piece – we hung this over an accent chair in our latest model at Stittsville Walk  – we love art with some personality, it really brings a unique feel to any space!

Laurel Foundry Modern Farmhouse 1 light pendant

We needed something simple in the dining space – we already had an amazing 12 bulb chandelier in the kitchen over the island so we needed something complimentary in the dining space.  We love this simple glass one light pendant with a vintage bulb –

Bora Solid Acacia Wood Table

We love the look of natural wood – the character of natural elements adds so much to a space – we love mixing textures! We needed a smaller coffee table and instead of a standard coffee table we opted for 2 of these and placed them side by side.

 Bungalow Rose Zanzibar Area Rug

We love this rug! The colour, the design and the vintage feel – we have 2 clients who have purchased this rug so far and they both love it! Are rugs are a great way to add visual interest to a room with colour and print!

Sevan Faux Mongolian Fur Blanket

We love adding texture like fur to living rooms, bedrooms and even dining rooms . Faux fur adds a great touch of softness to any space – it comes in all sizes and colours, too! We also like it as a pillow.

This is our round-up for this weeks favourites …. which is your favourite?

timberwood-towns-get-look

What is TimberWood Towns? Well if you have been following us on Facebook or Instagram – you have seen this amazing project that we have spent the last 6 weeks of our lives working on…It’s been a while since we have posted anything new but we hope this makes the wait worth while…..

TimberWood Towns is a new townhome community here in Ottawa and we had the amazing opportunity to design the sales center, the model and select all of the finishes top to bottom – it was an incredible experience, we learned a lot and created something beautiful!

It was a full 6 weeks – of selecting all the finishes for this project from flooring to paint to plumbing and lighting and everything in between. When you work with such a tight timeline you learn a lot about working together as a team, you also learn a lot about working with items that are in stock! We wouldn’t have been able to get this done without the pure magic of online shopping! Stores like Wayfair, Amazon, and Bouclair really came to the rescue! We have some amazing ‘friends’ at Urban Barn and they really pulled though with large and small purchases for this project! And of course, Home Sense (to our US readers, this gem is coming to the States soon and you will love it!)

Let us breakdown what we did in the space to create this industrial farmhouse look…

Reclaimed Wood Accents:

The look at TimberWood Towns is industrial farmhouse.  We mixed a lot of great texture in the finishes but also the furniture and accessories.  We found so many amazing pieces that really pulled this whole look together.  Our construction team found an old barn (a little over an hour’s drive out of the city) which is where we found all of this reclaimed barn wood for the accent wall in the den and to create these beams (which are included in every one of these townhomes, what a great architectural feature!)

Creating contrast:

A big part of this look was to create contrast so that the wood was a highlight but the the white walls and lighter furniture pieces really added to the feel.  You can definitely get contrast with colour but you can also get contrast with textures.  We needed to balance out the hard and rough texture of the wood with some softer elements – like these white linen chairs, leather sofa and lots of pillows. We added some rope texture to the space too – the pouf, the rope on the large clock and even some photo frames with a rope accent. Another great texture in this space is the cowhide ottoman.

Lighting :

We all know that lighting can totally transform the look of any home and this project was no exception! We needed some great lighting that would really help set the tone of this industrial farmhouse look – we found some amazing pendant for the kitchens (that’s right, we have 2 kitchens in this sales center) and bathroom. We used aged bronze finishes for the lighting as they really add a rustic touch to the space.

More TimberWood Towns …

TimberWood Towns Shopping list:

If you like this industrial farmhouse look – you are in luck! We have a list of the items we purchased for this beautiful showroom.

We love this Porter Wing Back from Wayfair – it adds some real presence to the living room and the nailheads bring some ‘bling’ into the room

Porter Wingback Chair

In the bedroom, we wanted to have a touch of a traditional rug but we didn’t want it to look stuffy.  We love the vintage finish on this cream and navy blue area rug.

Abbeville Dark Blue/Cream Area Rug Rug Size: 8′ x 10′

The lighting in the industrial Farmhouse look plays a huge role and these kitchen pendants with the cage detail in the aged bronze finish bring that rustic accent to the kitchen.

Hampton 1-Light Pendant

The choice of sofa is really important – it’s the largest piece in the room and it really sets the tone for the look.  We love this Dumont Sofa in Redu Bark distressed leather from Urban Barn.  Urban Barn is one of our favourite places to shop. Check them out – we are sure you will, too!

We added some great natural wood accent chairs off the kitchen – we love the simplicity of the design.  They would be great as dining chairs, or an accent chair in a corner (like we did here) or a bedroom.

The bedroom area was a smaller space so we needed to find a bed that embraced the look but one that was also pretty streamlined – we found this Braswell Queen Panel bed on Wayfair and it is perfect! It has a metal detail that compliments the light fixture, the nailheads add a nice finish and detail and the upholstered panel adds some softness.

Braswell Queen Upholstered Panel Bed

We love to work with natural materials and these Scandinavian Trunk Side tables from Bouclair add that authentic natural touch – we used them as simple side tables for the wingback chair and in the den with the swivel chairs.  These are the real deal and they weigh a ton! But we love the way they look!

With the wood accents and the darker floors, we need a rug that would be a good counter balance.  This Olga Rug from Wayfair – was the perfect rug for this space! Of course, the size was right but the tones were light and fresh yet still warm and the design has a handmade look without the price tag.

Olga Gray Area Rug Rug Size: 8′ x 10′

The den space – the room with that amazing reclaimed barn wood wall – needed some seating.  We really wanted to find chairs that would add some contrast to the accent wall.  We love these swivel chairs in this clean warm white linen.

Sevan Swivel Barrel Chair Upholstery: Natural

We needed some elements on that amazing reclaimed wood wall but we still wanted to show it off – Maddie has these great metal bookcases at her place (in white, of course) so she came up with the idea of these simple and super affordable metal shelves but in black for this den space! Off to IKEA we went! We styled the bookcase with a series of books and decor items – this bookcase allowed us to accessories the space without covering the wall.

We added even more of a rustic touch with the lighting in the bathroom and in the upgraded kitchen space.  We love these pendants in the russet finish from Wayfair – They are a great blend of pretty and industrial.

Mercury Row Dorota 3-Light Globe Pendant

and for an extra industrial style to these pendants, we added these vintage candelabra bulbs.

These are just some of the amazing pieces we used in this project – we love to mix styles but also price points. when you mix styles and price points, you end up with final product that is truly one of a kind. We love how all of these items come together in a cohesive and unique way…

Let us know which piece is your favourite, we can’t decide!

moody-blues-decorating-blue

Blue is a great colour to decorate with! There are so many shades of blue that you will definitely find one that suits your taste and style.  Blue is also a great classic colour so if you invest in some pieces you don’t have to worry that it wasn’t money well spent.

Blue is a great accent colour because it also works will all neutrals – white, cream, taupe, grey, brown you name it – it works! Blue is also a great colour to add to your exterior decor! In the spring and summer months, we see these beautiful blue tones in outdoor furniture and accessories, too!

Today’s focus is on the softer shades of blue – the aqua tones, robin’s egg, turquoise – to add a fresh spring / summer brightness to your space.  Adding some simple blue accessories to your space can transform your whole room without undertaking any huge renovation projects.

Here are just a few of our ‘moody blue’ picks:

Pillow Covers:

The pillow covers are perfect for spring and summer – the soft blue colour is light and airy and the nature motif is a great addition to a bedroom or living room.  These are pillow covers, so you can layer your ‘cooler’ weather pillows with these so you don’t need to find storage space for the ‘old’ pillows.

Table Lamp:

Lamps are a great way to add a pop of colour to a room.  We love turquoise and this lamp from Bungalow Rose  is perfect! We love the colour of the base and the shape, too – and the simple white drum shade gives the lamp a clean look and let’s that beautiful blue tone really stand out!

Wall Tile:

Something we are starting to see more of this year is interesting tile! We are seeing more colourful and patterned tiles in kitchens and bathrooms – either as a small accent (like a shower nook or just a small strip) or a full splash of vibrant colour (or pattern).  A blue tile paired with white or grey is a great look in a bathroom.  To make a statement you don’t have to use a lot.

Area Rug:

Area rugs are another favourite way to add visual interest in a room – we love what a patterned rug can do in a room and this stunning Blue and Ivory Rug from Bungalow Rose is a gorgeous addition to any space.  The colour and pattern are so light and fresh!

     Art:

Art really pulls a room together and it’s also an easy and affordable way to add something new to your space.  When it comes to art, don’t feel like you have to spend a lot of money on ‘one of a kind’ pieces – choose something you like! We love the colours in this art piece – the tones and fresh and soothing!

Accent furniture:

Smaller or accent furniture pieces like this armchair and another way to add some blue to your space without a major overhaul to your room.  We love the mix of the soft blue with the natural wood. The lines and size of this chair make it perfect for a smaller space or a corner.

Kitchen storage:

Don’t forget about the kitchen! The kitchen isn’t often a room that we think about adding decor to – but why not? There are so many cute, colourful and useful kitchen gadgets and items. We love this bread box, it has a bit of a retro feel and look especially in this colour.

Kitchen towels:

Add a pop of colour with your kitchen towels (aka tea towels, dish towels).  Just because something is useful doesn’t mean it can’t be pretty too!

We love this shade of blue – it’s a great hue for spring and summer accents in the home!

Bungalow Rose is a brand that we have recently stumbled upon. We are always looking at furniture, art, accessories, paint and more – on the hunt for new pieces, products, colour combos and even brands for our decorating clients.  Recently through 2 of our clients we stumbled upon this amazing collection that has this incredible global meets vintage energy.

Bungalow Rose is all about getting that ‘well-traveled’ look. Mixing bohemian chic with global influence. We love their mix of tribal prints, Eastern influences and Old-World charm. Their combination of prints and colours adds a truly unique look to any space.

If you love that global look – this is a line for you.  We have broken down some of our favourite pieces all available through Wayfair –

Bungalow Rose Favourites:

Pouf-

We are big fans of poufs! Whether it’s for extra seating or for a foot stool – they just add another shape, another texture and another height in the room.  We love these Moroccan influenced poufs in leather with embroidery detail.  We love this grey one !

Bungalow Rose Soukaina Pouf Leather Ottoman

Accent Pillow –

Accent pillows are a great way to add some colour and visual interest – Bungalow Rose has so many amazing pillows – We could have spent days looking through just pillows! I’m loving the freshness of the blue and white with the coral hue!

Bungalow Rose Oliver Mod Geometric Outdoor Throw Pillow

Table lamp

We love what an interesting lamp can do for a room.  Lighting can really add to the decor style of your room – so don’t just take anything.  This turquoise lamp is incredible – the shape and the colour are just stunning and they wok with the boho vibe!

This art piece is incredible – again it has the global look but in neutral and metallic tones – the pattern is very detailed but not overwhelming.  This could be added to any space that’s looking for something interesting but not over the top!

Decor Accessories –

Vases are a must have accessory! On a console, by a fireplace or sideboard – the colours, textures and varying heights – vases are a great decor item – be sure to group them in odd numbers!

shopping-finds-tufted-headboard

The Tufted Headboard has made a huge comeback in recent years – you have likely noticed it pretty much everywhere – TV shows, Pinterest, magazines, Instagram …the list goes on!

Tufted furniture was seen in more traditional rooms and styles but I love the mixes we are seeing with tufted furniture pieces.  A tufted headboard is a great way to add some sophistication to a bedroom. I love that you have so many selections with colours and fabrics for these tufted headboards and I love seeing how they pair with different styles of bedside tables – wood, mirrored, chest of drawers and more….

Tufted Headboard Shopping List:

  1. The Claudette Tufted Headboard – $469.99
  2. The Katia Tufted Headboard – $143.99
  3. Angela Tufted Linen Headboard – $559.99
  4. Amelia Tufted Panel Headboard – $369.99
  5. Jessica Tufted Headboard – $208.99
  6. Malika Tufted Headboard – $252.99

These headboards are some of my favourite shopping finds and I have included some images of bedrooms with tufted headboards that have inspired me!

Tufted Headboard Inspiration:

I love the mix in this room – the dark accent wall is a great contrast to the wing back tufted headboard – I love the brass desk lamps on the white and mirror end tables! Such a chic bedroom!

Image – the Life Creative

This bedroom tufted headboard has colour and texture.  The teal velvet fabric with white piping and buttons adds sophistication without being too serious! Love the navy blue accent wall and the mix of pattern pillows (I love a splash of leopard). The white lacquered end table ties in well with the white accents on the headboard.

Image – Z Design at Home

This image is an unexpected combination but it definitely works! This neutral tufted headboard paired with this boho blend of prints, colours, textures and vintage finds is a case study in personal style and I love it! This is not your cookie cutter bedroom.

Image – thedecorista.com

This bedroom is my dream bedroom (but with 4 little ones – it will have to remain a dream until I can have a clean home) But this bedroom is so dreamy and chic.  I love the all white motif and all the textures.  The antique looking chest of drawers for the side table fills the room and adds that extra storage we all need! The beaded chandelier is such a statement – I love the tufting on the headboard and at the foot of the bed. I could go on but the image really speaks for itself.

Tufted Headboards add some visual interest to the bedroom and they work with some many styles. Which is your favourite pairing? Do you have a tufted headboard?
