fall home decor

neutral-fall-decor-favorites-from-amazon

Neutral fall decor is my favorite look for the season. I know that we are very used to seeing those vibrant orange, red and yellow tones or even rich eggplant and burgundy for the fall season – but if you know anything about my personal taste, neutrals are my style!

What I love about neutral fall decor – is it is so simple to add to your existing palette because very simply – it’s neutral! The fall season is so full of amazing natural textures so by decorating with neutral tones you can really celebrate and embrace gorgeous textures straight from nature (like wood, botanicals and stone).

Neutral Fall Decor Inspo…

Let me share with you some inspiring neutral fall decor home decor images. I always like to seek out new ways to add touches of the season to my own space.

Adding just a touch of a fall hue is a nod to the season but isn’t overwhelming with rich colours. I like to add pumpkins in my kitchen, entry, family room and if I’m entertaining the dining room. I love heirloom pumpkins because their tones are muted and balance well with other soft neutral tones.

I love to play with texture in general but there is something about mixing texture when it comes to decorating for the fall season. Mixing wool with leather (or faux leather), linen and adding those natural elements like (faux) pampas grass or (faux) cotton stems. It adds an immediate feeling of comfort and makes the space feel cozy and welcoming. Again not everything needs to be orange and rusty red just a few pops of those tones will do – or opt for a completely neutral theme.

Fall is finally here! Yep, I’m that person who just loves fall.  Sweater weather, plaid, boots, baseball ending and football starting, the trees, the apples the pumpkins, the crisp air….I love it all. Fall is a beautiful time of year with the changing of the leaves and all of the great textures.

Fall Home Tour

Once the kids are back in school, I honestly ask myself “Is it too early to decorate?” I do wait until it is officially fall to bring out my decor but it’s hard to wait! Let me take you on a tour of my home and how I like to celebrate the season with decor.

Front Porch

My home’s exterior is a fairly traditional Tudor style home. The front porch is fairly large but to be completely honest, my family does not enter our home through the front door just guests. But I love to use this space to celebrate this season (and every other season). My door is a creamy neutral tone so any wreath will stand out.  One of my favourite elements of fall is texture.  This wheat straw wreath is simple and I just love it!

Living Room

I personally prefer a more neutral and subtle fall decor look in my main living space. It is soothing yet still celebrates the season.  In the summer months, this Eucalyptus wreath is on my front door but I love it so much I decided to add it to my mantle.

I love this cute ‘Autumn’ garland.  In burlap and muted fall tones.  It plays into the rooms neutral colour concept, too!

About my brick fireplace, I will have to write a post about it….this I painted in a dry brush technique. I wanted to see some of the reddish tones of the brick but it was so dark, I wanted to tone the red down (and brighten up the room)

Fall is all about cozy nights by the fireplace. So knitted blankets are a must! Since you can only display so many on the sofa (and chairs), baskets are a great storage and display piece to play into the theme.

I’m a big fan of decorating with trays and I have on there on my cowhide ottoman, it holds our remotes, coasters and these cute decorative pumpkins that I found at Target!

top-10-fall-decor-pieces

Fall is coming….yes, my favourite season is almost here! Fall is THE most beautiful season for so many reasons – the crisp air, the colourful leaves, all of the cozy textures and natural ones, too! I love celebrating new seasons with changing up my home decor, it’s so simple to add some new pieces to your current space and the results make it all feel brand new! Here are my top 10 fall decor pieces:

Top 10 Fall decor Pieces:

1.Pumpkins

Nothing quite says fall like pumpkins. These faux decor pumpkins in this creamy white tone are perfect for a centerpiece or a grouping by a fireplace.

2. Rustic Signs

The fall is all about celebrating the harvest. Adding a rustic element is a great way to add a little country to your home.  I love rustic signs – they have a farmhouse feel ! This rustic fall themed sign would be a great piece to add instead of a wreath or add to a fireplace mantle display.

3. Wreath

The colours of fall are so spectacular and should be celebrated! This wreath is the perfect addition to a door or decorating a fireplace or styling a console table. I love the mix of colours and textures in this wreath!

4. Glassware

So not the typical ‘fall decor piece’ but these mason jar glasses are adorable! Mason jars are a great way to embrace a rustic look without going over board plus the messaging here is fall inspired – do you love pumpkin spice?

5. Chunky Knit Blanket

I am ALWAYS cold! True story. So blankets and throws are always a must when it comes to styling a sofa and in the cooler fall months, a chunky knit blanket is non-negotiable. I love the cozy elements and the softness of course, but the bulky knitted texture adds a great visual elements to any room! These chunky knit blankets are just gorgeous!

6.  Plaid

When the cooler weather arrives, the plaid flannel shirts start to come out – am I right? So add some plaid to your fall decor scheme. It works on beds, armchairs and of course, sofas. I love the simplicity of these Buffalo Check pillow covers. You can add plaid to your home decor in other ways, for some ideas – click here

7. Candles

So much about what I love about fall are the incredible scents – pumpkin, vanilla, apple, spicy, woodsy….I love them all. An Apple Cider candle adds another layer of cozy to any home during the fall months.  I love the scent of these handmade candles and I love the simple label, too!

8. Wood

I love dough bowls and not just because I have a weakness for fresh bread….I love them because I love that rustic character that they bring to a kitchen. Dough bowls are a perfect and simple way to display some mini pumpkins or apples during the fall months – set it out on a kitchen island or dining table. I love the simple design and imperfections of this dough bowl

9. Metal Pitcher

This rustic metal farmhouse pitcher is perfect for all seasons, not just the fall.  Place any foliage or branches (real or faux) to bring some of the outdoors indoors…..

10. Natural elements

I love simple decor and these faux acorns are easy to use to add a bit of a woodsy feel to your decor.  Add them to a centerpiece (or maybe in your dough bowl arrangement) but I like to fill my simple glass vases with acorns like these and display them on my fireplace mantle or coffee table.

I hope my top 10 fall decor pieces have inspired you to embrace the upcoming season and bring a little outdoors inside. What are you favourite things about fall?

love-chunky-knit-blankets

I have to confess that I am in love! I’m in love with chunky knit blankets … I have loved them since they really started to emerge in current home decor.  I love being cozy and snuggling up with a blanket (as I am writing this post I have one of my many throw blankets on my lap …)

Do you love chunky knit blankets?

I know in terms of trends I am a ‘little late to the party’ but to be honest I don’t consider knit anything to be a trend – I think there will also be a place for these fabulous knitted creations but yes, they are having a bit of a moment right now.

I have to share some of my favourite home decor looks with chunky blankets

Chunky Blankets in the Living room

This white living room with black and grey accent is so clean and crisp – and this over sized chunky blanket adds so much texture to the room.

This big stitch oatmeal chunky knit blanket draped over this sofa is perfect for cuddling and snuggling plus it makes this contemporary tufted sofa look softer.

The chunk knit blanket was seen a lot this year in millennial pink – two trends working hand in hand.  The corner of this living room space is so fresh and feminine in millennial pink, clean lines and the over sized knitted throw is balanced and beautiful!

There’s no better to place to snuggle than in your bedroom – add a chunky knitted blanket and you may never want to get out of bed again!

Again that classic combination of soft grey and millennial pink – so soft and soothing especially in a bedroom.

Where can you get a chunky knit blanket?

If you are crafty – there are some great arm knitting tutorials that show you how to make such a cozy and chunky knitted throw blanket.  This is one tutorial that I found easy to follow – here

I’m a knitter and my goal is to knit one of these myself – I found this step by step knitting tutorial for one of these chunky blankets on nourishandnestle.com – I can’t wait to make my own!

Not crafty? That’s OK…

You can purchase one!

Here are some of my favourites, found on amazon.com

This beautiful blue blanket is a stunning colour with this chunky knitted texture is available on Amazon.

This white handmade chunky blanket by wool + sea is stunning and available on amazon.

Do you these chunky knit blankets as much as I do??

What is Buffalo Check?

This pattern is also known as Buffalo plaid.  It originated at Woolrich Woolen Mills in the 1850’s. This pattern is traditionally seen in red and black but over time there have been many colour variations.

The pattern is often 2 or 3 colour striped fabric creating equally sized large squares (gingham is similar but the squares are much smaller).  Buffalo check had a real moment in 2015 holiday decorPlaid is always a popular choice at Christmas and this pattern fits the style plus with the popularity of woodland inspired decor the pattern is a perfect fit!

Buffalo Check and Home Decor…

This plaid print works very well when paired with a rugged and rustic look (think ski chalet) but in other colour variations it can also work in more transitional, farmhouse and traditional styles.  Buffalo plaid can be used in many different ways – ranging from upholstery to table settings. Here are some of our favourite rooms with Buffalo check.

This bedroom has a rustic mountain home look with the traditional red and black Buffalo plaid pattern.  Paired with the cowhide rug and shiplap walls – this room has a rugged and cozy feel.

Add a touch of country to your walls with this water colour effect wallpaper in Buffalo plaid print – the black/grey/white colour scheme is very neutral easy to work with.  It pairs beautifully with the wood tones and the simple and clean bedding – the style in this room has some mid century modern elements but it works with this check pattern on the wall.

Pillows in a Buffalo plaid is a more subtle way to add this print into your decor.  Again the black / white/ grey plaid print is a great addition to any space – this is beautiful at a front entry bench, living room, bedroom and this dining banquet.
