want-to-lengthen-the-lifespan-of-your-clothes-try-dry-cleaning

Men and women want to present the right image at all times, and our choice of clothing plays a role in how well we succeed with this goal. Clothes are used to cover the body, but the choices we make also share information about our personalities and what we love. When we wear clothes that make us look good and are comfortable, it changes the way we feel and act.

Each time we wear a piece of clothing, however, it is exposed to wear and tear. Regular use lessens the lifespan of the clothing. To extend this lifespan, consider dry cleaning your clothes rather than washing them. What is this cleaning method, what benefits come with its use, and how does it extend the lifespan of clothing? With the answers to these questions and more, you will quickly come to see why a dry cleaners service is exactly what you need.

What is Dry Cleaning?

Dry cleaners use special products to clean clothing without the use of water. They rely on a liquid solvent to clean the garments, making this the ideal solution for clothes with stains or delicate pieces that cannot go in a washing machine. The agitation feature of the washer would damage these items. The special solvent used removes dirt and stains from clothing. However, the items do go into a large machine. The cleaner simply replaces the soap and water used in conventional washers with this solvent.

The chemical solvents used in the process vary. However, many dry cleaners rely on tetrachloroethylene to handle the dirt, odors, and stains present in clothing. Before using the solvent, the cleaner must determine which type of fabric they are dealing with and how best to treat any stains on the garment. Once they complete this step, the clothing goes into the machine for cleaning. When this part of the process is complete, the dry cleaning service dries and presses the clothing. High-quality and delicate fabrics, including silk and cashmere, benefit greatly from the dry cleaning process, as water will damage these fabrics.

Many people are concerned about the use of tetrachloroethylene as it does come with health and environmental risks. If you are concerned about this, ask the dry cleaner if they have alternatives they may use. Chemical solvents that are better for the environment include Green Earth and liquid carbon dioxide.

The Benefits of Dry Cleaning

Dry cleaning is a gentle cleaning method. The clothing won’t be agitated, which minimizes wear and tear. Many stains will not come out with normal cleaning methods, which means the item must be replaced. Before throwing it out, take the garment to a dry cleaner. They have specialized solvents they may use to remove these stains without harming the item. This cleaning method is especially good at treating oil and grease-based stains along with wine stains. However, it cannot remove all stains, so speak to the dry cleaner to learn whether they can be of help.

The cleaning method is also good for many textiles. When you wash clothes, you may notice they fade or the texture changes. Dry cleaning helps retain the vibrant colors and texture of your garments. They will look new longer. Many people think it is the agitation that leads to the loss of color or changes in the shape and texture of the item. However, hot water does a lot of this damage. As there is no water used in the dry cleaning method, you get more wear out of your clothes when you choose this option. It may also be used for embellished items that may be damaged in a washing machine.

When you pick your clothes up for the dry cleaner, you will notice they smell clean and fresh. This process removes any odors. Clothes are also less likely to shrink when they are dry-cleaned rather than washed. People who don’t have the time to hand wash delicate items need to find a dry cleaner that will do this work for them at a reasonable cost. They can wear these items frequently knowing they won’t need to set aside time to clean them.

Items Not Suitable for Dry Cleaning

However, certain items should not be taken to the dry cleaner. Any garment with sequins or beads must be cleaned using other methods. Rayon is another material that doesn’t respond well to dry cleaning. Talk to the service to see which garments they can help with and which you should choose other cleaning methods for.

Extend the Life of Your Clothing

Dry cleaning extends the life of the clothing by reducing the abrasion seen with traditional washing methods. Washing methods that use agitation break down the fibers in the clothing, leading to the fabric becoming weaker and thinner over time. This process also protects the fabric’s color, texture, and integrity. By slowing the aging of the fabric, dry cleaning methods allow clothing items to look vibrant and newer for a longer period.

The dry cleaner will treat and remove stains before they set into the fabric permanently. With their help, you can avoid ugly blemishes on your favorite clothing items, ones that you may not be able to remove at a later date. This service also knows how to handle delicate fabrics so they are not harmed. Velvet, lace, and silk are fragile, so a washing machine that agitates clothing is not the way they should be cleaned. With the help of the dry cleaner, you can keep delicate fabrics looking now for years to come.

How Long Does Dry Cleaning Take?

Many dry cleaners can have your clothing back to you within 24 to 48 hours. However, speak to the service to learn its turnaround time and whether certain garments will take longer than others. Longer times are often needed for stained clothing or delicate fabrics.

While there are many items in your wardrobe that you won’t mind washing, cherished pieces and favorite items you wear regularly need special care. A dry cleaner can clean these using methods designed to keep them from harm. With the help of these services, your clothes will last longer while still looking their best.

6-uses-of-goat-milk-at-home

Goat milk is a type of milk produced by goats that offers a wide range of uses and benefits. It’s a highly versatile ingredient that can be used in the kitchen, in toiletries and skincare products, and as a home remedy for various minor ailments.

In this article, we will cover the many uses of goat milk in the home

1. Alternative to Cow Milk

The first thing that springs to most people’s minds when considering the uses of goat milk is its use as an alternative to cow milk. For individuals with an allergy or sensitivity to the proteins found in cow milk, goat milk can offer a safer and healthier alternative that doesn’t cause digestive issues.

Because goat milk has less protein than cow milk, it’s easier to digest and can be absorbed and used more easily by the body. Of course, protein is an essential macronutrient, so many individuals prefer cow milk over goat milk to maximize their daily protein intake. However, although goat milk is lower in protein than cow or soy milk, it contains significantly more protein than almond or rice milk.

2. Soaps and Bath Products

Traditional bars of soap contain artificial chemicals and scents that can have negative implications on health. For example, many unnatural soap bars contain chemicals known as endocrine disruptors that can increase or decrease hormone production in the body, causing various health issues.

Goat milk is an ideal ingredient for producing natural soap bars and reducing the negative consequences of artificial ingredients and toxic chemicals. Goat milk soaps are known for their moisturizing properties and offer a gentle and clean way to wash your skin.

Similarly, goat milk is commonly found in natural and organic bath products like body washes, shampoos, and conditioners. It soothes the scalp and skin, enabling you to gain the maximum benefits of your baths and showers.

3. Skin Care and Beauty

Goat milk is rich in nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids, which are known to be beneficial for the skin. It is richer in vitamin A than cow milk, a fat-soluble nutrient vital for healthy skin and hair growth.

Due to its hydrating and cleansing properties, goat milk is perfect for moisturizers, face creams, face masks, and face scrubs. It’s great for producing organic skincare products for environmentally conscious individuals.

Because it’s a natural ingredient, it won’t cause irritation on the skin, even when included in exfoliating products. Goat milk is commonly combined with other beneficial ingredients, such as honey, coconut oil, or oat milk.

4. Cooking and Baking

Goat milk tastes great and has a smooth and creamy texture. Although it has a slightly tangier taste than cow milk, it’s often the preferred choice due to its higher digestibility.

Goat milk has a range of culinary uses. It’s great on its own when you want a cool and refreshing drink. It’s also a suitable ingredient for smoothies and shakes to enhance their flavor, texture, and volume.

You can use goat milk when cooking healthy meals for kids and adults. It’s an ideal alternative to cow milk in most recipes, including those for pancakes, muffins, and cakes. Most grocery stores offer goat milk cheese or goat milk yogurt, which makes the perfect alternative to cow milk if you suffer from allergies to cow milk protein.

5. Hair Care Products

Due to its high nutrient content, goat milk is a beneficial ingredient in hair care products. It hydrates the hair from top to bottom, making it softer and shinier.

You’ll find goat milk in many natural shampoos and conditioners, as well as in natural hair masks. You can create your very own all-natural hair masks at home by getting yourself some goat milk and adding other ingredients like honey, eggs, and essential oils.

Make sure the oils you include in your hair mask recipe are safe to apply directly onto the skin. Not all essential oils are suitable for skin care products, and some can cause skin irritation or redness in high concentrations.

6. Pet Nutrition

Goat milk isn’t just beneficial for humans. It’s also a healthy ingredient to include in your pet’s diet. Many pet owners choose to supplement their pet’s existing dietary intake with goat milk for additional nutrients and hydration.

Supplementation with goat milk can enhance your pet’s internal health and make their fur softer, shinier, and less matted. You can also bathe your pet in the bath and use goat milk-based shampoos and conditions to keep their fur in the best condition all year round.

why-is-collagen-so-important-for-youthful-looking-skin

The quest for youthful, vibrant skin has been a constant in human history. Amid countless skincare trends and fads, one element remains central in maintaining skin health and vitality – collagen. But why is collagen so crucial for youthful-looking skin? This comprehensive guide dives into the relationship between collagen and skin health.

Collagen Explained: More Than Just a Protein

Collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, plays an integral role in forming the structure of various tissues. This includes our skin, which relies on collagen for its elasticity, strength, and smooth, plump appearance.

However, as we age, our body’s collagen production naturally decreases. This decline, coupled with environmental factors like UV radiation and lifestyle choices such as smoking or poor diet, leads to visible signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines, and skin sagging.

The Vital Functions of Collagen in Maintaining Youthful Skin

Youthful skin is not just about appearance; it’s also about the skin’s health and functionality. Collagen contributes to these aspects in multiple ways.

1. Skin Firmness and Elasticity

A robust network of collagen fibers in the dermis (the middle layer of the skin) provides structural integrity to the skin. These fibers create a supportive mesh that gives skin its firmness and helps it bounce back into place, maintaining its elasticity.

2. Adequate Hydration

Collagen plays a crucial role in skin hydration. It has excellent water-binding properties, allowing the skin to retain moisture, which is key to maintaining its plumpness and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

3. Skin Renewal and Healing

Collagen is instrumental in the process of skin repair and regeneration. Whenever the skin is injured, collagen acts as a sort of ‘glue’ that helps mend the damaged tissues, facilitating faster wound healing. Moreover, the constant regeneration of skin cells supported by collagen contributes to the maintenance of youthful skin.

Tips for Preserving Skin Youthfulness: The Collagen Boost

To maintain the radiant glow and plumpness characteristic of youthful skin, collagen is key. The effects of aging and environmental stressors can deplete our natural collagen reserves, but several lifestyle adjustments and practices can help replenish them and even stimulate new collagen production. Let’s delve deeper into these strategies.

1. Embrace a Collagen-Supportive Diet

Your diet can be a powerful ally in supporting collagen production. Certain foods are naturally rich in collagen and others can enhance your body’s collagen manufacturing processes.

a. Collagen-Rich Food: Foods like bone broth, chicken skin, fish skin, and gelatin are packed with collagen. Incorporating these into your meals on a regular basis can provide a direct source of this vital protein to your body.

b. Pro-Collagen Foods: Certain nutrients can boost your body’s ability to produce collagen. Vitamin C, found abundantly in citrus fruits and bell peppers, is a key component of collagen synthesis. Similarly, proline and glycine, amino acids found in egg whites, wheat germ, mushrooms, and dairy products, are part of the collagen molecule. Consuming these foods can indirectly support your collagen levels.

c. Antioxidant-Rich Foods: Antioxidants fight against free radicals, unstable molecules that can break down collagen and damage skin. Eating antioxidant-rich foods like berries, cherries, and dark leafy greens can help protect your existing collagen supplies.

2. Optimize Your Skincare Routine

The products you apply to your skin can also have an impact on collagen levels. While it’s true that collagen molecules in creams and serums are too large to penetrate deep into the skin, certain ingredients can stimulate your skin to produce more collagen naturally.

a. Retinoids: Retinoids, derivatives of Vitamin A, are proven to stimulate collagen production. They can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin tone and texture.

b. Vitamin C Serums: Vitamin C is not only important in your diet; it can also work wonders when applied topically. Vitamin C serums can stimulate collagen production and offer antioxidant protection, helping to fend off damage from free radicals.

c. Peptides: Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks of proteins such as collagen. Some skincare products contain peptides, which are thought to stimulate the skin to make more collagen.

3. Consider Collagen Supplements

If your diet isn’t supplying enough collagen or if you want to ensure you’re getting a substantial amount, collagen supplements might be a good option. These products can deliver collagen directly to your body, promoting skin elasticity and hydration.

a. Hydrolyzed Collagen Supplements: Hydrolyzed collagen, or collagen peptides, are easier for the body to absorb and use. These supplements have been shown to improve skin elasticity, which could help maintain a youthful appearance.

b. Collagen Capsules: Collagen capsules provide a convenient and easy-to-use option for collagen supplementation. They can be incorporated into your daily routine with ease.

c. Collagen Powders: Collagen powders can be a versatile addition to your diet. They can be mixed into a variety of foods and beverages, from smoothies to soups, giving you a collagen boost without changing your regular meals.

In essence, upholding the youthfulness of your skin involves a holistic approach centered around maintaining and boosting your body’s collagen levels. Through mindful diet choices, a well-curated skincare routine, and potential supplementation, you can support your skin in retaining its youthful glow.

my-top-5-beauty-faves

I’m not a beauty guru or beauty youtuber but I definitely enjoy playing with makeup and finding amazing skincare products – that make me feel and look my best! I have some beauty gurus that I really enjoy learning from too! I will share some of my faves below…

Since we have been in self isolation, in the beginning I definitely took advantage of not doing my hair or makeup (in the beginning), it was nice to just let go and I think the break has been good for my body. But there are definitely days when I miss the ritual of applying my morning makeup or getting ready for a special date night….. So I have been playing with makeup again – it helps distinguish between day and night (lol) Getting ready in the morning with a quick 5 minute face before a zoom meeting feels ‘normal’ and taking some extra time to get ‘unready’ before bed is a relaxing ritual and was something I didn’t realize I would miss. So starting up these small routines has been welcome and I feel a bit more like myself (even though life is so different now).

My Beauty faves (right now)

So I definitely have been making my skin a priority – I will have to share my faves with you in another post. After I cleanse and moisturize – I start with my brows. I have a basic shape but they need filling in! I love this pencil and brush duo and taupe is a perfect shade

With a simple stay at home makeup look – I haven’t been using eye shadow (which is a product I love) but I all about keeping it simple. Next is lashes, I used to get lash extensions but I have been taking a break for the past 6 months. So I have been rocking this mascara it’s one of my faves gives me volume and length.

I have never been a full coverage foundation kind of girl (unless I out for a very special occasion) – I really prefer something lighter and just something I can use to even out skin tone (I often get a touch of redness around the nose and of course some darkness under the eyes). I use a touch of concealer just to even things out and this one is my absolute favourite – I wear shade 50NN – the shade range is very wide!

I always like to look a bit sun-kissed it adds life to my face! So I always add a touch of bronzer – and this drug store find is my favourite bronzer!

One of my absolute beauty musts is blush – I just love what a splash of colour can do! I am personally draw to peach tones and this one I received through IPSY (a monthly makeup subscription) and I have discovered some great beauty finds though this service! This is one of those discoveries – I love the the tone of this blush

When it comes to lip colour , for the day to day- I personally prefer something subtle. For an evening out I either like a true glossy nude or a bolder tone, but for the day I love a nude-pink like this one from Lòreal (Colour is rosewood)

I definitely miss my monthly manicure I used to get a dip powder manicure and it was such a treat. During our isolation, I soaked it off and i have been giving my nails a bit of a break. I cut them quite short and I have been using this product to strengthen them and make them healthy again.

Inspiration…

I love learning about makeup application and techniques and I definitely have a few ‘gurus’ that I love to learn from – here are some links to my favorites…I have learned a lot from these gurus.

Dominique Sachse

Wayne Goss

Robert Welsh

I have to stay that this extra time at home has definitely had it stressful moments (I still working my day job as a teacher, I have my 4 kids at home and hubby is an essential worker) but I am still trying to find time to practice some self care and make myself feel better. A 5 minute face can really lift my spirits and make me feel normal in this abnormal time,

i-heart-you

With Valentine’s Day coming up – it’s time to wear your heart on your sleeve … Chocolate and flowers are great but here are some other ideas that say “I heart you!”

I personally love a great clothing or jewelry piece with a cute heart – it’s fun! But you can also wear it on days that just aren’t Valentine’s Day! Love is in the air so why not show it!

My 8 best Valentine’s Day Picks

Red and pink are the classic Valentine’s day colours – but you can celebrate the holiday with other colours, too! I’m a big fan of neutrals but also leopard print so this Stella and Dot top is perfect for the holiday or any day!

Another great Valentine’s Day sweater is this cute cashmere crew neck from J.Crew – who doesn’t love cashmere? Again the heart detail is perfect for the holiday but this can really be worn anytime of the year!

I love red, I love cashmere and I love leopard – so this has everything! Such a cute sweater from J.Crew – pair it with some ankle length black pants or jeans – it’s fun for work or play!

Don’t forget about him! Heart boxers are perfect for sleep or as undies! You could even wear them yourself with a tee or tank for lounging around at home! These J.Crew boxers are so fun and I love that they offer a sale when buying multiples – so if you can’t decide on a design – get a few!

Another great gift and this is something I get my husband (because he won’t get socks himself) are fun dress socks. These heart design socks are subtle but still say “I love you”!

I love these cute hoops! I got them last year (in silver for my birthday) – they come in gold, silver and rose gold! They are about a medium size hoop and very lightweight. I always get lots of compliments on mine whenever I wear them!

Sometimes simple is best! These diamond-like heart shaped studs are a perfect gift (I’m getting these for my daughter…) This style of earring is timeless and works with every outfit!

A photo frame is a great gift and I am a huge fan of Rae Dunn so this photo frame is just perfect!

I hope these gift ideas have inspired you (or maybe you have added to your wishlist…) But when it comes to giving and receiving, it is always the thought that counts…

gifts-that-sparkle

Gifts under $50 – Gifts that sparkle for under $50….

The Holidays are for sparkle! I personally love to wear a bit of bling everyday – sometimes it’s subtle and sometimes it’s a bit bolder. I love to receive a great jewelry piece but I love to give a great accessory, too!

What I love so much about jewelry is that it can really transform an outfit from day to night or it can just spruce up a very basic outfit. A touch of bling can also really show off your personality.

I have rounded up my favourite gifts that sparkle and they are all under $50 …..

Sparkle Gift Guide

  1. Dorado wrap bracelet
  2. Essential sculptural bangle
  3. Attica multi-wrap bracelet
  4. Delicate Horn necklace
  5. Love necklace
  6. Ulani ring
  7. Pave Orbital Ring
  8. Essential Hoops (gold or silver)
  9. Star Climber Earring
  10. XOXO studs

Why I love these gifts….

These are some of my personal favorite pieces. I wear these regularly – to work or on a date night. I love for different reasons – the horn necklace is perfect for someone who loves to layer. The hoops are a classic (I have them in silver and gold) – they are a great day to night transition piece. The sculptural bangle is another classic that I often wear with my hoops – it’s very simple but so chic (I also love the gold version). The Ulani ring (which is on a HUGE sale right now) is very minimalist but so unique – it’s perfect for someone who likes to be different but still simple. The pave orbital ring – I wear almost everyday! It is very flattering on – it can be worn everyday or for special occasions.

The Star Climber earrings are subtle but a bit edgy with a touch of bling! When I don’t want a simple diamond stud – I reach for these….The XOXO studs are a great gift for a teen or pre-teen girl – so cute! For someone who loves an arm party (ie stacking bracelets) both the Attica and the Dorado are great options – as they are one piece but they look like you have multiple bracelets on – so chic and I get a tone of compliments on my Attica (also the clasp is magnetic – so it’s really easy to put on and take off)…The Love necklace is also a great layering necklace (the cursive script is really cute) and a great gift for a teen or pre-teen (they also have matching hoops and it comes in silver or gold) – who doesn’t love love?

To give the gift of sparkle you really don’t have to drop a small fortune – you can add some bling on any budget ….

sweater-weather

I am definitely not a fan of cold weather but the only things that I do like is a cozy sweater. At home, we have a dusting of snow on the ground so I am keeping myself warm both at work and on the weekend by wrapping myself up in my favourite sweaters!

When it comes to finding the perfect sweater I have a few musts…

My Sweater Wardrobe “look-fors”…

  1. I love a neutral tone (I have been drawn to cream and light grey tones this year but you can’t go wrong with classic black) Neutrals work with everything and if you are considering investing in a gorgeous sweater – I like to know it’s going to always be “in”.
  2. For work I like a lighter knit – you can layer with a great jacket, a cardi or a vest.
  3. I opt for for oversized sweaters for the weekend but a boyfriend fit is great for work or play
  4. Soft, soft, soft – it has to be soft. I personally have a hard time with wool (it makes me so itchy) so I love cashmere but I often get synthetic fibers (because you know budget – But i have invested in a few cashmere pieces….)
  5. I find v necks are very flattering (but nothing too deep for work) – I have a shorter neck so a v-neck gives me length
  6. A loose turtleneck is perfect for chilly days and nights…cozy and cute!

My Top 6 favourite sweater picks

I love the softness of this colour combination and the knit itself – I love this sweater for the weekend with skinny jeans and some great boots. But add a classic camel overcoat and it’s chic for work – add a vest and you are ready for a coffee on a crisp fall weekend!

This is the perfect weekend sweater (or even a date night sweater for a cozy night with hubby). Add some leggings – I love this sweater with a leather legging and some great heels, hoops and a bold lip. But this can also work for a relaxing weekend at home when you want to look cute! This sweater is so affordable (under $30) and incredibly soft!

Sweaters don’t have to be chunky….this is a perfect sweater for work (or date night with the right accessories) I love this colour but there are so many more choices and they are all stunning ! This is a great transitional sweater for your wardrobe as it would be ideal for spring as well!

Hello cozy! This sweater is made of all things cozy – the turtleneck (which is a bit on the loose side – I personally don’t like anything tight near my neck), it is so soft and I love the texture. I love the length of this sweater too, hip length (which I’m also finding really flattering especially on petites)

A cardi is a perfect piece for work or the weekend. I love this cardi because it has a great flattering shape to it – a tshirt or a great fitting tank is all you need with some great fitting jeans or trousers – I love this with my trouser jeans! I am personally drawn to this rusty-copper shade but it does come in a light grey which is also really nice.

There is something so chic about a boyfriend sweater – and this one is a perfect addition to any wardrobe. I love a boyfriend style sweater like this one because it is a classic with the right amount of oversized. It’s perfect for weekends but I wear mine to work all the time – a simple French tuck into jeans or slim trousers and you look so stylish!

These are my favourites for sweater weather favourites – which is your favourite?

obsessed-with-olive

Olive green is a favourite of mine. I love the ease of this tone and I especially love how versatile it is – for the home or for fashion! It works as a solid or in a pattern and I love how it pairs with all neutrals but also colours!

Olive green + fashion

Typically when it comes to fashion, I am drawn to all shades of black and of course grey! But this season – I’m really loving the softer neutrals like olive. Plus olive and black are such a sophisticated combination. I also love olive paired with denim, navy blue, charcoal (any grey tone really), cream and blush pink. You can’t go wrong with a great army inspired jacket or cargo pants for a casual look but pair this hue with work wear and it’s so flattering.

My Top 9 Olive Obsessions…

Fedora – Hats are huge this fall season and I love them paired with denim, a poncho or blanket scarf! Olive is a very flattering colour for all hair colours, too!

‘Olive you’ mug – This is just cute! A sweet gift for a boyfriend, husband or child.

‘Save the date’ cards – I love the simplicity of these cards and the symbolism of the olive branch is a beautiful message.

Accent pillow – this pillow has a great linen texture and I love this colour. It is so universal – for a bedroom or living room – these add a soft texture and tone.

Slouch top – I love the gold button accent and the slouchy neckline. It’s stunning with hoops and skinny jeans. Perfect for a casual date night!

Tartan throw blanket – The fringe detail with paired with the tartan pattern gives this throw a fall feel. This is perfect for cozy fall nights on a sofa or accent chair.

Cargo pants – this is weekend wear at it’s best! I love the tone but the softness of this fabric makes these pants perfect for weekends when you don’t want jeans or leggings. Paired with a t-shirt and denim jacket with a cross body purse and some slide on sneakers or some low heel booties and a sweater – these are a classic in casual style.

Faux Olive Tree – I know not everyone is a fan of faux plants but not everyone has a green thumb or the environment to keep plants alive! There are many life-like greenery options and this is one of them! I’m a big fan of the fiddle leaf fig but this olive tree adds a softer tone to a space. My sister has one in her living room and it looks incredible!

Area rug – I love the olive option as a softer alternative to grey. Olive has that warmth that grey doesn’t always offer – it’s a great neutral and alternative to dated warm beige. This rug has a classic pattern and a mix of neutrals so it works with everything!

These are my favourite pieces in this sophisticated hue. What do you think of olive green?

2019-fall-fashion-finds

Let’s be honest….I am a huge fan of summer (the freedom in our schedule, the sunny weather, the BBQs, baseball and all the family fun!) but the fall season really is my favourite!

What do I love about the fall….that’s easy!

  1. Fashion
  2. Sweater weather
  3. Leaves, pumpkins and gourds (of my!)
  4. Blankets
  5. Cozy nights
  6. Fall makeup and beauty
  7. Hot drinks on crisp fall walks

So let’s get to the fall fashion – I always look forward to my back to work shopping in the late summer months. I love to add new pieces to my wardrobe and this season was especially fun (after losing 40 pounds – more about that in another post). After shopping for the essentials for the kids – I was able to invest in myself a bit more this season – as my husband said – “you need something to wear to work!” So let me share with you my favourite finds for the fall and how I plan to wear them!

My top 10 Fall Fashion Finds

  1. Sloan Curvy Ankle pant by Banana Republic

I love this pant for a number of reasons. It is very flattering (if you aren’t curvy like me – there is a slim version). It comes is many colours and patterns (I saw a leopard print, red, menswear inspired plaid, dot, navy blue, olive green….love them all). I love the ankle length with heels (for a dressy night out) flats, booties and you can tuck these into tall boots! You can wear these all year long, too!

2. Leopard print point toe ballet flat by Nine West

These are perfect to wear with the ankle pant (see above) but I also love them with jeans! These are great to wear for my “day job” as a teacher and since I’m a huge fan of neutrals – these add some visual interest!

3. Parke Women’s Blazer by J.Crew

OK confession time….I bought this blazer in camel (love and can’t wait to wear it!) AND in navy blue! This fits like a dream (even if you are a bit on the busty side) this is very flattering for regular fit and petite (like me). Sometimes petite blazers can look like you are playing dress up or look like the garment has shrunk but this is perfect and why I bought 2! I also like to roll up the sleeves for a slightly more casual look and you can pop up with collar – there’s a gray felt detail on the underside of the collar that looks really chic when you pop it!

4. Small Statement Stud Earrings (available on Amazon)

I’m definitely a big hoop girl for the evening but for the day I like a smaller earring. I’m a fan of a simple diamond stud or a pearl but this small cicrle looked so modern and clean and that’s why I love it!

5. Essential Sculptural Bangle (Large) by Stella&Dot

I used to be all about silver jewelry but lately I have really been drawn to gold. I haven’t tossed out my silver pieces – I mix the gold in! I’m loving the look of mixed metallics. This gold bracelet works with every outfit and I love it and wear it all of the time! Stella&Dot is one of my favourite places to shop because you can update any outfit with adding sme simple jewelry pieces.

6. Destructed Girlfriend jean by Banana Republic

These jeans are everything! I must confess I have worn them already and received tons of compliments (that feels so great!) I love cuffing them up with heel or booties – I wore mine with an open toe bootie and a simple black tank blouse and layered necklace! But these will be great with a slouchy sweater, blazer and tee or chilly weather flannel shirt. These are like a boyfriend jean but better!

7. Wide Brim Wool Fedora (found on Amazon)

Hats are so chic! And this season they are everywhere….The wool fedora adds some personality to your look – with rolled jeans, booties and a great blazer – it’s perfect! This hat is great because it is a timeless classic and I have it in this olive tone but it comes in a bunch of colours ranging from neutrals to brights!

8. Blanket Scarf (available on Amazon)

A blanket scarf is a perfect piece for fall (or winter) it can be worn in many ways….Here is a great list of ways to wear a blanket scarf – let me know which is your favourite!

9. Covet Kensington Tote by Stella&Dot

If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed I received this bag in black for Mother’s Day (hubby has great taste – or he asks a lot of questions about what I like, lol) . This tote is classic, stylish and so handy when travelling. I brought this on our trip to Boston last week and my mother purchased it while we were there, “she had to have it!” I honestly kept an extra sharp eye on mine, lol! But it is a beautiful bag and the leather is like buttah! It is definitely an investment piece but I know it will be used all the time!

10. Gaberly Boatneck Sweater (found on Amazon)

Hello comfy sweater! This is so soft and slouchy but it a stylish way! This comes in a bunch of colours and I need to decide which other colours to get – not sure if ALL of the colours is an option that hubby will get behind, lol! Oh and this sweater is only $25USD!!

I know I don’t usually or ever post about fashion but it has always been a passion of mine. I had a part time job while in university at the GAP and I used to style the windows and body forms (aka mannequins) – I loved it and sometimes miss it…I love fashion and like home decor I don’t think you have to spend a fortune to look good!

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did and please let me know in the comments if you would like more posts like this or tell which fall find was your favourite!

Fall Nail Polish

fall-nail-polish

I love celebrating the fall season with home decor and fashion (yay sweater weather!) but I also love fall nail polish colours!  I’m not personally into nail art (but I appreciate it) I like embracing colours that compliment the season and work with all of my fun fall clothes. Here are my favourite fall nail colours and some that I’m ‘rocking’ right now!

6 Best Fall Nail Polish colours

Rose Gold nail polish

So in the early fall I’m not necessarily quite ready to dive into the deeper tones.  But I saw this at my favourite nail salon…‘Awakening’ by China Glaze.  It is the perfect post-summer pre-fall tone.  I would describe it as mauve meet rose gold.  I have this colour on my toes right now and I love it! It looks amazing with that post-summer tan…..

Navy Blue Nail Polish

I love navy blue all year long but I especially love it in the fall months.  It really compliments those orange and gold tones we see at this beautiful time of year.  I do find that a true navy can be a bit too dark but this is a colour that my sister wears all of the time and it is so flattering!  ‘Rock Royality’ by CND – yes, it is a shellac and in this image it looks more like a deep purple but it can also look like navy blue depending on the light and your skin tone.

Taupe Nail Polish

I am a huge fan of neutrals, in home decor, fashion and even nail polish.  Neutrals go with everything and there is a flattering shade for everyone! Right now I am wearing a taupe shade (after a summer of rocking long nails in French ombre) this is was a change for me! I love this OPI ‘taupe-less beach’ hue.  It’s so clean and modern.

Burnt Orange Nail Polish

For the summer, coral tones are my go-to (especially for my toes, I think that’s the shade I wore from May to August).  But coral is just to tropical for fall.  But if you are a fan of that hue this is a great fall inspired alternative for you.  Essie ‘Playing Koi’ is a total nod to Pumpkin Spice – it has a burnt orange look but it is still bold and fun!

Brown Nail Polish

I never really found that the black nail polish worked for me.  It just felt a bit ‘costumey’ to me (although perfect for Halloween).  But I love a darker polish. So a deep or even medium brown is a good alternative.  I like the warmth and it is still dark. Zoya has a great colour ‘Gina’ which is a great warm – neutral option.

Gold nail Polish

Metallics are a great way to add some bling to your everyday.  As you know I love saying fairly neutral (in fashion and my home) but I love wearing jewelry with a simple outfit! It brings in so much personality and style! I usually paint my nails in a glittery gold at Christmas. But recently I have embraced metallics as an autumn go-to.  They are a great alternative to neutrals and they work with the gorgeous foliage. China Glaze ‘Passion’ isn’t glittery but it has a sheen so it’s enough bling without being over the top for the everyday!

Now that fall is here, what nail polish colours do you like to like to wear?
