5-essential-items-for-a-full-home-office

So many companies have decided to make the permanent switch over to remote working. For many of us, this is great news and there are a load of benefits.

However, it also means that our sketchy work-from-home set up at the kitchen counter has to become a permanent solution. For obvious reasons, that isn’t going to work. 2022 is the year to commit to setting up a full home office to make your work life easier and more efficient. Here are some essentials you need.

A Printer

If you’re someone who works with a lot of administrative tasks, constant documents coming in and out, and needing to sign papers every 30 minutes, you know the value of having an office printer.

While for some of us this might not be very useful, others know that a color laser printer can completely change the game for a home office setup. The best thing about this is that it can serve you in your personal life too (but we’ll call it a business expense).

A Second Screen

If you grew accustomed to working with two screens at your regular office, you’ll know the struggle of having to readjust to the single-screen life. Switching between 300 different tabs, windows and documents every two minutes gets tedious, and having that second screen can boost your time efficiency and productivity by miles.

Good Internet

With the kids streaming Netflix downstairs and your husband working on a Zoom call in the other room, your cheap, unstable internet connection is probably bursting at the seams and slowing your workflow.

When anyone in your household works from home or studies remotely, investing in a good internet connection is well worth the money and effort you’ll have to put into finding the perfect setup. Ask for recommendations, read reviews and compare prices – but don’t cheap out on this one.

A Comfy Chair

The plastic chair you took from the patio furniture isn’t going to cut it long-term. If you’re officially a work-from-home employee, you need to invest in a proper desk chair to support your back.

An ergonomic chair is important for someone who spends most of their hours sitting at a desk – and you’ll want to spend good money on this one too. If your budget is tight, look for second-hand options, but make sure they’re a good brand and suitable for your body. Remember, everyone is different.

Noise-Cancelling Earphones

Chatty, invasive colleagues can be annoying, but the difference is that in the office, there’s nothing we can really do about that without potentially stepping on toes. When you’re at home, it’s different. It’s important that you can break away from the sounds of your home and get into the right mindset

Using noise-cancelling earphones to drown out your bickering kids or the football on the TV while you’re trying to get some work done is perfectly acceptable in your home office, and definitely encouraged. Don’t let yourself get distracted. Throw on some focus-friendly beats and get into work mode.

open-concept-home-what-is-a-barndominium

Many people remain unaware of an option open to them when they choose to build a home. However, the barndominium is an excellent choice for a variety of reasons. Don’t let the nickname barndo fool you or the fact that this housing option was created to allow caretakers to stay close to their animals. Today, it serves as the perfect solution for many people wishing to buy a home and design it the way they want.

The Benefits of a Bardominium

The Barndominium works for a range of housing styles, including vacation rentals and luxury homes. What makes this the perfect residence in upscale rural areas known for their vineyards and expansive ranches? Why would a person wish to invest in a residence that is unlike anything they are familiar with in terms of the building methods used? These serve as only a few of the countless questions a person may have before deciding if this option is right for their needs.

Customization

When a person chooses to construct a barndo, they find they have countless options available to them. The building often comes as nothing more than a shell with basic framing on the interior. As a result, the owner finds they can finish the interior however they desire. One person might want an open floor plan that allows the interior to be wide open other than bedrooms and bathrooms. Another individual may choose to have separate areas for each part of their daily life. It’s all a matter of what the owner wants and needs when it comes to the residence, as no two families are alike.

Furthermore, companies now offer a do-it-yourself option that every potential buyer should consider. The construction team handles the basic tasks. They construct the metal shell, hook up the utilities, and handle tasks such as putting up the drywall. Once this work is complete, they turn the home over to the new owner. This individual then handles all of the remaining details, such as choosing the flooring and fixtures before having them installed. This ensures the home meets the owner’s needs and wishes in every way.

Construction

People find they must wait months to have their new residence inhabitable when they choose to build from the ground up using conventional building methods. That isn’t the case when a person opts for a barndominium. Experienced crews can have the metal shell construction up in a fraction of the time. The homeowner can then take as long as they want or need to complete the interior of the residence. Doing so ensures the home is everything the owner dreamed of when starting the project and remains within their budget at the same time. They finish the home as money allows to ensure they get the perfect residence in every way.

Durability

The metal used to create a barndo ensures the residence will last for decades. In fact, these materials come with a longer lifespan than conventional building materials. Homeowners know they are making an investment in the future that will provide a nice return on investment in the coming years.

Flexibility

One reason people love barndos is the structure can be used as a home or combine elements of both a workplace and living space. It’s all a matter of what the individual wants and needs from their residence. As more people work from home today than ever before, it’s no wonder they are taking a second look at the barndominium option.

Furthermore, potential buyers find they can create a home that allows them to enjoy both indoor and outdoor living. They select those features that will be of most benefit to them. For example, one person might wish to have a rollup door on their residence to accommodate their classic car collection. Another buyer could select oversized windows throughout the home to enjoy the beauty of the landscape even when they must stay indoors.

Creating the Perfect Residence

When designing a barndominium, individuals find they have flexibility. While certain rooms must be situated a particular way to accommodate utilities, the majority of the interior layout can be customized to meet the needs of the owner. Experts recommend planning the home around the way each room will be used.

Once the square footage of the barndominium has been decided, it’s time to begin planning the interior. Many barndos feature a main living area with a loft area above this space. To ensure the home feels open and welcoming, many individuals opt for large windows and a wraparound deck. However, these serve as only two of the countless ways the barndo can be designed for the specific individual or family who will live there.

Finishing the Barndominium

When the time comes to finish the interior of the residence, experts offer some advice that will benefit any new homeowner. They explain that color serves as the best way to make the house a home. When the residence contains a large, open space, add a colorful stripe that extends around the perimeter of the room. Doing so provides the area with an intimate feel. Countless individuals opt for an accent wall, as this helps provide the large open space with a focal point, and homeowners should consider making the ceiling the accent wall.

Large furnishings serve as the perfect pieces for barndominiums. These furnishings include oversized chairs and sectionals, among other things. When placing the furniture, group pieces together to distinguish different living spaces. Many people tend to arrange their furniture in a way that leaves the residence looking like a furniture store. Using this technique that can be avoided.

Allow the furnishings to tie the different areas of the home together. A single color palette across the different spaces serves as a great way to accomplish this goal. If you are concerned about becoming bored with this color, choose a neutral palette. By doing so, you can change up the look of the space simply by changing accessories in the different rooms. Add some new throw pillows or choose lamps in a different color to achieve this goal.

Area rugs serve as another great way to separate different living spaces in an open concept home. The rugs help to define the different areas and separate them. Again, try to keep the rugs in the same color palette for a look others will envy.

Barndominiums serve as a great option for individuals looking to build a home. Speak to a builder today to learn whether this option meets your needs. Many people find it is exactly what they want for their new residence, as these structures have so much to offer.

five-ways-to-get-the-right-mindset-when-working-from-home

The office is a great help in getting into the right mindset for working. You go in, sit at your desk, and you’re away!

But this can change when you need to work from home. All of a sudden you don’t have the right surroundings or environment to get your head in work-mode. Before you know it, you’re watching Game of Thrones, reading the news and completely forgetting about work.

So, to help you avoid this, here are five really effective ways to get into the right mindset when working from home.

1. Remove all distractions

Just like at the office, you need to get rid of all distractions and things that will tempt you to do something else. This means turning off the television and putting your phone on silent.

The temptation to get up and do something else can be very strong. So, to help you with this, it is recommended that you block out a certain amount of time for work, and then work for that amount of time and no more.

You can also:

  • Close all your social media accounts (except for work related ones).
  • Turn off the TV.
  • Tell family members your working hours.

2. Set up a dedicated workspace

If you can set up a dedicated workspace at home, then do it! Even if you can’t, try and make your home office as clean, tidy and presentable as possible. This will help you to feel like you’ve really got something to work with, and will give you a real boost of motivation.

It will also be beneficial if you can work from the same place every day. This will help you build a routine, which makes it easier to achieve the right mindset for work

But if you do have to work from other areas around the house, try to keep one thing consistent. You might find it helpful to wear your work clothes, sit in the same chair, or even listen to a radio show every day.

3. Get the correct equipment and furniture

As well as working from the same place every day, it’s also really important to have the correct equipment and furniture for your work space. If you are able to, invest in similar furnishings and equipment that you would use in your office. This will really get you in the working mindset and will motivate you to do more.

Some of the furniture you will need include:

  • A decent desk – if you can afford it, a desk with adjustable height can really improve your productivity. Stand up reading desks, for example, are really good for letting you move around easily and keep you fit!
  • A comfortable chair – use this chair when you need to relax, and make sure it’s somewhere where you can sit for a long time without feeling uncomfortable.
  • A small coffee table – this is great for putting your notes, laptop and other things on.
  • A few shelves – these are great for storing stationary, resources, and other things you might need.

Make sure your work area is clean, tidy and clutter-free. This will make it easier to be in the right mindset for working. Invest in some storage solutions for your desk, and try and make a nice, comfortable space for you to work in.

4. Background noise can be helpful

Background noise can be a good thing. If you are working from home, try and play some kind of calming music in the background. This will help to block out any noise from the rest of the household. You can also try the radio, or even the TV if you’re working late at night.

However, make sure the music, radio or TV is not distracting or loud enough to take your attention from your work. You can use headphones, or put the radio or TV on in another room.

5. Use the right lighting

The right lighting can really help you to get into the right mindset for work. Remove any lamps or other light sources that might distract you. Try using daylight instead. You might find it helpful to open the blinds, or even open the windows.

Using daylight is really good for your concentration. It also helps you to feel like you’re at the office, and will give you a sense of normality. If you find it hard to concentrate with daylight, then try using a desk lamp.

By using the right lighting, you will feel like you’re at the office; this might even give you a sense of normality.

To Sum Up…

Working from home is a great way to make extra money, but it’s not easy. You need to be in the right mindset to be able to work, and to make sure you get the job done.

So, make sure you remove all distractions, use the right equipment, have the right furniture, and make sure the lighting is right. All of this will help you to be in the right mindset for working and get the job done.

4-design-tips-for-a-brand-new-space

After recently purchasing a home, such as one of the beautiful homes for sale in Agincourt, Toronto, one of the first and most exciting things to do is start designing and decorating your space.

With a clean and blank interior design canvas, you have ample opportunity to explore new trends, new styles and maybe even step out of your comfort zone. In most cases, you’ll still be equipped with your existing furniture and décor, but that doesn’t mean you have to feel boxed-in when it comes to your home design. Here are a few tips for recreating your new space.

Pick a Colour Scheme

Picking a colour palette for each room of your new home will be a lifesaver and help you to stop second guessing every purchase you make. Take a look at what you already have to work with, in terms of furniture and décor, and see what colours are prominent in your home.

Using what you have and drawing on those colours to bring flow and unity to a room can make everything look put-together and sleek. You could try to use different colours and tones in each room – warmer tones for a cosy bedroom and cooler tones in your living space for a fresh feeling. If most of your furniture is neutral, this is your opportunity to choose some now bold colours to bring into your life!

Embrace Wall Art

New homes tend to feel cold, empty, and well… A little lifeless at times. Bring some energy into your new space by hanging some art, paintings, or photographs on your walls. Adding sparks of your personal life and style to a room will not only add intrigue but make it feel more like home too.

Cluster Your Décor

Trinkets scattered across every shelf, table and counter in your home isn’t a good look. Displaying your décor pieces, memorabilia and other odds and ends is a great way to style your home and make it your own, but it’s important to avoid cluttering your space.

Creating a balance between items of different heights is a great way to bring balance to different spaces in your room. Cluster items like vases, books, baskets, candles coasters and other small accessories in little groups of different heights in various spaces. Try out a group on your coffee table, a group next to the television, a group on the shelf, and so on. This will create focal areas of style in your room.

Mix and Match

Just because you’re in a new space doesn’t mean you have to start from scratch and trying out new styles doesn’t mean you need to toss everything and start over, either! Working with what you already have and mixing and matching styles can actually look amazing.

A sleek and modern sofa paired with a more vintage style coffee table makes an interesting pairing, and combining bold pieces with more subtle décor can bring amazing balance to a room

how-to-get-the-coastal-living-look-in-your-home

The allure of a beach house is simply irresistible to most people. There is a longing for the atmosphere of simple living by the sea. To sit on a front porch and smell the salty air and listen to the gulls. Most people settle for it for a week or two of the year when they go to the seaside for a vacation.

Yet, setting up a home to reflect that coastal living vibe is definitely doable. And there are a lot of variations to choose from. You can go with a saltbox Cape Cod style home or a Mediterranean villa like these Vista Lago Residences.

In this article, we will go over how to transform your home into a cozy coastal setting even if you don’t live near the coast.

Go with white

One of the most sought-after factors when staying by the sea is someplace that is light, airy, and feels fresh. You can certainly imagine sitting in a sunroom and enjoying the breeze off of the water that feels just right. To replicate that sensation, using white is going to do the trick.

It is very rare to stay in a coastal home and for it to be painted anything but white. This holds true for the lime-painted stone homes all over Greece or the interiors of a cabin on Cape Cod. it’s a must for the foundation color of your interior.

All-white interiors can be tricky, however, since they can end up looking monotone and sterile. The key is to make sure that you add different shades from the accents and add some texture with other features.

When done correctly, white interiors will replicate the vibe of a beach house and make you feel very cozy even in the hot summer.

Use natural accents

Being by the coast is an immersion in a natural setting. Bringing some nature into the house is going to add to the coastal energy. Wood is essential so look for accents that use weathered wood with a light patina to give it the appearance of some age.

Furniture made of wood that isn’t stained too dark is a good idea. It should have the same color and texture as driftwood. You can even decorate with actual driftwood if you can manage to collect some from a beach trip.

Rope, shells, and other articles that are always associated with the beach are also a great use of natural elements for decoration that will give some texture to the rooms.

Keep it beach casual

Beach homes are almost always unfussy yet, curated with the right style of furniture and accessories. Make sure to not go with luxurious furniture or decorations that will change the vibe completely. Linen covers on the sofa or chairs add to this look while still giving a classy style.

The interior should be inviting and make you and your guests feel like they can sit and wile away a few hours just listening to the sound of the waves gently lapping at the shore.

6-reasons-why-you-should-install-blinds

Property owners review a variety of window coverings that are ideal for their homes. Many homeowners have discovered that blinds are a great choice for covering their windows and improving the living space. The products are available in a variety of colors and styles. The owner can also get exceptional benefits by installing the blinds in their homes. By reviewing the 6 reasons why blinds can make the home a better place, homeowners learn that the products offer exceptional window coverings with extra function.

1. Controlling the Flow of Natural Light

Blinds are a great choice for controlling the amount of natural light that enters through the windows. With the window coverings, homeowners can adjust the blinds according to their preferences. They can use the wand to open them a little, or they can lift the blinds to allow a larger amount of light into the room. Homeowners can learn more about window covering services by contacting a service provider now.

2. Blinds give the Owner More Privacy

Blinds can provide homeowners with far more privacy and keep prying eyes out. The design of their blinds determines how well they block out others. Homeowners may have an issue with neighbors looking into their windows as they pass by the property. Blinds could be the best solution for preventing others from invading the owner’s privacy and keeping neighbors and other passersby from seeing inside the property.

3. Improves the Security of the Home

While blinds will not stop intruders from getting into the property, the window coverings can stop potential criminals from seeing inside the property and finding an ideal entry point. Intruders evaluate the properties before they try to break in.

They do this to identify the layout of the property and determine the most optimal way into the home and out as quickly as possible. By adding window coverings, the owner can improve the security of their homes and prevent intruders from getting the upper hand.

4. Makes the Home More Energy Efficient

The right blinds deflect heat from the windows, and they can block cool air from entering the property. This could improve the energy efficiency of the home and prevent significant wear and tear on the heating or cooling system. By reviewing the materials used to construct the blinds, the owner can determine what option meets their needs the most.

5. Easy to Clean Window Coverings

Blinds are not difficult to clean, and there are cleaning products designed specifically for blinds. These options make it easier for the owner to clean dust and debris off the blinds and help the owner keep the home dust-free. The products are a brilliant solution for covering a window without increasing the workload for the owner.

6. Blocking Out Ultraviolet Sun Rays

Ultraviolet sun rays can enter the windows if the owner doesn’t install the right products. They have the option to purchase ultraviolet coating to deflect the ultraviolet sun rays away from the interior. However, the products are not within the budget of all homeowners. Blinds, on the other hand, are an affordable choice for all homes and prevent ultraviolet sun rays from harming the owner and their family.

Property owners install blinds to control the amount of natural light in the home, and they can prevent ultraviolet sun rays from entering their property. The owner gets far more privacy and block out outsiders and potential intruders. With the blinds, the owner can improve the energy efficiency of the home and cut down on expenses.

small-accessories-guide-how-to-subtly-change-the-home-in-big-way

Often, we become a bit tired of our house looking the same old way, day in day out. We yearn for changes but don’t have the time or the budget to do anything drastic on a large scale. The good news is that we can make lots of small changes that all add up to something special. Check out these fantastic suggestions.

Art & Ornaments

We could go down the usual route of buying some prints we like from Walmart or somewhere similar, but that shows little imagination, doesn’t it? We could use a multitude of pictures and portraits to create a gallery wall. Other options include using stencils to create exciting patterns or even going to paint a mural if you are artistic. It is even possible to have custom wallpaper made up.

Shelves & Storage

What type of shelves and storage we use may not immediately seem like the type of choice that says much about our style, but they can make or break the mood of a room? Consider the most basic storage we can think of? Perhaps we could use cheap plastic storage boxes stacked along the wall; this would work in a garage or storage unit, but it’s not aesthetically pleasing at all. There are many better choices, and we should consider both the style and our taste.

Books & Other Media

We cannot talk about shelving without having an idea of what we should put on them. The type of books, music, and other media we store on our shelves can say much about our personality. For others, it is ornaments or personal possessions. If storage were just about keeping our possessions in place, we wouldn’t bother, but it signifies what we are into.

Kitchen Tools

Sometimes we can be forgiven for thinking of the kitchen as purely functional, but there is a lot more to it than that. Creating food for the family takes up much more of our time than we realize. Even something as simple as this iron brush can look good if in keeping with the room’s theme overall. We should keep this in mind whenever we are purchasing anything for the kitchen. We could keep the kitchenware on a consistent style in many ways; by brand, by colour, or even by style and design. Consider we have an old farmhouse, and the kitchen is styled in a very traditional way; all of our cookware and other items must keep to this theme.

Eating Area

Somewhat connected to the kitchen, often literally, is the dining room or eating area. Some houses these days choose not to have a dedicated eating area and decide to have dinner in front of the TV, but for me, this is a big no! Sitting down to dinner can often be the only opportunity we have as a family to have a proper conversation about our lives and what we have been up to? These opportunities are invaluable and cannot be substituted for by anything else.

Subtle Themes

We have touched on the idea of themes up until now, but this is really a subject that requires some dedicated discussion. When discussing our potential kitchen ideas, we floated how we might buy items for a kitchen in an old farmhouse-style property; let us consider other ideas as well, what if we are living in an inner-city apartment. It is possible we could lay out the interior of such an apartment with décor that would normally be present in an older build, but it would be a bold move. A much more appropriate design would be to look to a modern and slightly minimalist look. The key in achieving a minimalist look is the effective use of space and light. Clutter is generally something we would always look to keep to a minimum, but to be minimalist is a step further than that. We must keep everything simple; if we consider the colour scheme, then it will not do to have too many involved; as little as two will look good. We must have space in between furniture, shelves, and artwork on the wall. It is essential to take a brutal and unwavering attitude to this style of decorating.

Door Handles

This may sound like something that is daft, to highlight door handles with a section devoted to such a small part of the house. It is possible that in many ways, no one really notices door handles, but you would certainly notice if they were wrong or out of place. What we are actually saying with this point is that you need to be mindful of all aspects of the house, no matter how small they might first appear.

House Numbers, or Name

Speaking of doors and entrances, we can also make our style be known by how we present the house number or name. There are so many ways we can subtly modify our house signifier. The first choice to make is whether we go for numerals, or the number spelled out in words? Using words can add a touch of class to the simple job of marking your house. But to take it a step further we can give our house a name. It is very easy to do as we are not actually required to change anything legally; we are simply referring to the property by a different name. You can pick a name in many different ways, it could

Plant Life

If we add a splash of green, it always livens the home up. House plants are a great way of connecting with nature and making the house feel natural and smell great. It can give a fantastic sense of achievement to see something we’ve looked after grow and thrive in our home. Plants can be a lot of work if we keep a lot, but others are virtually no work at all, take cacti as an example; they barely need water and pretty much are self-sufficient.

6-design-tips-for-a-small-room

Having a small space can feel like you’re trapped in a dead-end in terms of design and décor, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Even cramped, tiny rooms can be transformed into something beautiful with the illusion of space to expand your horizons. However, this might take a few tips and tricks to achieve – keep reading to find out how to get it done.

#1 Focal Points

The main focal point of a room – the bed, the sofa, etc. – can play a major role in the size and space available to you in the room. This can relate to the pieces themselves as well as their placement in the room in contrast to other furniture and décor. Take into consideration standard couch depth (for comfort and design factors), the height of your bed and headboard, and other elements like this to create height in a room and add to a bigger, bolder feel.

#2 Fake it Until You Make It

Faking height in a room is one of those design tricks that everyone has heard of – and loves because it really does work. Creating the illusion of space using high hung curtains, vertical lines and tall mirrors is a sure-fire way to draw the eye upwards and create space within a room that isn’t really there.

#3 Keep it Simple

If your design style is “busybody” you might want to reconsider that for your smaller rooms and areas in your home. Clean, simple designs and layouts are going to be your best friend in terms of maximising the space you have available to you. Keeping your rooms devoid of clutter, exaggerated décor or trinkets and overbearing colours will help keep it from becoming a cramped and cluttered nightmare instead of a relaxing space

#4 Lots of Light

Light and bright is the way to go. Sticking with crisp, pale shades and bringing in as much natural light as you possibly can is a great way to expand the way a space feels. Darkness can feel dingy, gloomy and claustrophobic, which is why creating light can help brighten your space and add to the room in a big way. Choose a light, neutral palette for your base and incorporate light in whichever ways you can.

#5 Double Up

When you don’t have a lot of space to work with, it’s important to go for multifunctional pieces that can serve for design and practicality. Nightstands with loads of drawer space to hold clothes (or whatever else you need it to) and ottomans or benches that can function as seating or a makeshift table and serve as extra storage space at the same time. Make your furniture work for you!

#6 Use the Walls

Your walls don’t have to be dead space – take advantage of them. Install some floating shelving for some extra storage space or use the area for décor. Art, plants, books or whatever you wish to have on display on your walls at any height can be both useful and look amazing.
