the-best-accessories-to-buy-for-your-home

There are many elements to home design from how you arrange your furniture to what you have on the walls and how the lights operate. No matter what you prefer, you can use such a variety of colour, or lack thereof to make your home reflect your personality and feel cosy. The first thing you need to do is to decide what kind of mood and look you will like to have. Are you going traditional and rustic or modern and clean? Depending on what you prefer, will dictate how you proceed with the rest of your decoration style. Once you have this nailed down though, you can start thinking about what accessories can bring your home altogether. Here are just a few ideas for you to think about.

Vases

Many people have vases in your home. They are probably one of the most used home accessories in all of history. They date all of the way back to the ancient world where they were made in Greece and Rome for holding food, medicine, and oils as well as for decoration. Vases have survived so long because of their versatility not only in use but in style as well. You could prefer a ceramic look or a Rattan vase to make your room come together. You could go back to the traditional use of storing oils and food in them or you can display flowers to add a sense of freshness to any room in your home.

Teapots

Teapots are one of the most used items in the home. All around the world people reach for the teapot in times of comfort or in times of celebration. Whether you are going through heartbreak or looking to mark a special occasion then grabbing the tea is something that everyone does. Much like vases, they have been used for many years dating from the 16th century in China. From there it has spread across the world and the world is grateful for it. Without the teapot, there may not be any afternoon teas. These are a great accessory for any home due to their variety in style from traditional to chic.

Art

This is always a tricky one to get right. However, the important thing to remember is that the art you display on your walls or in your home should reflect you and your personality. If you stick to this principle then you will soon find that you have a style and the pieces will all begin to gel together. There are a variety of different items you can get as well. You can look at small prints for the wall or larger more traditional portrait paintings. But you could also buy small sculptures to bring some texture to a room. Never buy a piece just because you think people will like it though, you will have to live with it.

Rugs

Nothing makes a room cosier than a soft and fluffy rug beneath your home. They add a layer of warmth and comfort to your home and can be used against your stylish wooden floor. On top of this, there is a rug for every mood, colour, style and room. Depending on what you prefer, you can go for an antique rug with dramatic patterns or a more welcoming fluffy rug that will be comfortable enough to lay on. Think about the colour of your room and the floor. You will want your rug to stand out but not to be an eyesore. Spend time seeing which rug will work in your home before you purchase.

Houseplants

Whilst many people have cultivated the houseplant, there has never been a time when they have been as popular as they are now. It is an inescapable conclusion that plants are good looking in any home and research has shown that they can even make you feel good. Plants remove carbon dioxide from the air and convert it to oxygen for you to breathe as well as neutralising harmful chemicals like formaldehydes. Plants have also been shown to decrease stress and can even improve your creativity. Plants are also versatile. There are so many different kinds with a variety of needs. They are not as demanding as you would think.

Accessories for your home

Getting the style right in your home is a tough one. There is a lot to consider and so many different options. Remember that you don’t need to do it all at once. Spend time experimenting and working out what you want. Before you know it, your style will come together.

friday-favourites

It’s Friday! and it’s time to round up some of our favourite pieces from the week.  It has been a busy week at kiki interiors and we have been working on so many different projects for clients but here are some of our favourite finds from the week….

  Eiffel Side Chair

We are HUGE fans of these chairs – we used them most recently at Stittsville Walk but we have used them with a number of clients.  they come in a bunch of colours and different bases, too!

Zak Teak Dining Table

This was a recent purchase for our staging inventory and we love it! We just took it out of the box this week and wow, it did not disappoint! It’s a perfect table for a smaller space and the reclaimed teak has a raw and industrial look bringing so much character to the room.

Bull Printed Framed Art

Another new inventory piece … we love the simplicity and the unexpected element of this piece. It is such a clean looking framed piece – we hung this over an accent chair in our latest model at Stittsville Walk  – we love art with some personality, it really brings a unique feel to any space!

Laurel Foundry Modern Farmhouse 1 light pendant

We needed something simple in the dining space – we already had an amazing 12 bulb chandelier in the kitchen over the island so we needed something complimentary in the dining space.  We love this simple glass one light pendant with a vintage bulb –

Bora Solid Acacia Wood Table

We love the look of natural wood – the character of natural elements adds so much to a space – we love mixing textures! We needed a smaller coffee table and instead of a standard coffee table we opted for 2 of these and placed them side by side.

 Bungalow Rose Zanzibar Area Rug

We love this rug! The colour, the design and the vintage feel – we have 2 clients who have purchased this rug so far and they both love it! Are rugs are a great way to add visual interest to a room with colour and print!

Sevan Faux Mongolian Fur Blanket

We love adding texture like fur to living rooms, bedrooms and even dining rooms . Faux fur adds a great touch of softness to any space – it comes in all sizes and colours, too! We also like it as a pillow.

This is our round-up for this weeks favourites …. which is your favourite?

“I’m so excited about this years colour of the year! I love following home décor trends. What are some great places to add Rose Quartz into my home?”

Great question!
We’re super excited about this years colour of the year! Soft shades of pinks have been in home décor for the past few seasons and it’s a colour that pairs beautifully with so many other colours. We love mixing metals in with this
gorgeous shade of Rose!
This is a very versatile shade that can be used in so many places in your home. I don’t think there’s a room this wouldn’t work in!

Here’s a few suggestions for the most prominent places to show it off in your décor.

A fabulous spot for this colour is in your bedroom!

So many people are using soft, serene tones in bedrooms, and this is the perfect colour for implementing this in your home. Adding an art piece with rose tones, or lamps would be a great refresher for your space. Another easy place to add this colour is in throw pillows and blankets.
Adding just a few touches to your bedroom will make your space feel transformed and very on-trend!

Adding Rose Quartz to your living room is another fabulous idea.

The great thing about this too is that the living room is a more common area for you to show off these trendy new additions. (your friends will be jealous at how ‘on trend’ you are this season!!) As in the bedroom, adding a Rose Quartz throw pillow or blanket will be a great addition to your space. Combining this beautiful tone with golds and rose golds is a beautiful pairing. Even with chrome!!

We will be seeing lots of accessories with these soft pink hues, so if lamps and pillows are too big of a commitment
for you, try adding various accessories! Candle, candle holders, trays, floral arrangements and vases are great spots for this pop of colour!

Adding Rose Quartz accents to your bathroom is another great spot to be ‘trendy’.

Pink towels, art or soaps will give your space a modern refresh!

This is a fabulous shade to mix and match your colour palettes. Rose Quartz is such a soft hue, its practically a neutral! Pair with reds, blues, white, grey, beige, metallics, various textures and so much more!
Be creative!
